How to Use Employee Reviews & Check-ins - Employee guide

How it works

Reviews & Check-ins is a structured review module in Simployer. A manager creates a conversation with an employee using a template (a set of discussion points). Both parties answer the same questions independently — neither can see the other's responses until both have submitted. Once both submit, a shared view unlocks for comments, tasks, and an AI-generated summary. The manager closes the conversation, and the employee signs off.

Employee Guide — Reviews & Check-ins

As an employee (Target-user), you prepare for and follow up on structured discussions with your manager. You respond to discussion points independently, collaborate once both have submitted, and sign off the final conversation.

You find Reviews & Check-ins in the left hand menu under Performance.

Step 1 — Prepare your responses

1 You will receive a 'Conversation created' email

Click the link in the email to open the conversation directly, or go to Overview → My conversations and click 'Respond' in the Action column.

2  Answer each discussion point in your own words

Type your reflection in the text editor for each discussion point. Text auto-saves as you type. You can leave some points blank — you'll be warned before submitting but can still proceed.

3  Use AI Enhance if helpful, then click Submit

The Enhance button can rephrase, fix spelling, shorten, or lengthen your text. Once you submit, your responses are locked and remain hidden from your manager until they also submit.

Tip

Answer honestly and independently. Neither you nor your manager can see the other's responses until both have submitted — there is no way to 'check' what they wrote before you answer.

Step 2 — After both have submitted

4 Status becomes 'Submitted' — review together

You will see both sets of responses side-by-side. Add comments per discussion point to ask follow-up questions, capture notes from your conversation, or clarify your submitted reflections.

5 Collaborate on tasks and the summary

Both you and your manager can add draft tasks (with title, assignee, and optional due date). Either of you can generate and edit the AI-powered summary. Tasks are draft and not visible outside the conversation until it is closed.

Step 3 — Sign off

6 You will receive a 'Conversation closed' email

Go to My conversations and click 'Review' in the Action column. Read through all responses, comments, tasks, and the summary.

7 Click Sign to confirm and complete the conversation

Status becomes 'Closed'. Your finalized tasks will appear in your task list — you can mark them Todo or Done from there. If your manager re-opens the conversation, your sign-off is invalidated and you will need to sign again.

Tip

Finalized tasks appear in your task list outside the conversation. You can track progress on these independently after the conversation is fully closed.
