What is Anonymous Chat in Employee Surveys?

Anonymous Chat lets an employee and a manager or HR Admin discuss a survey question and its comment without revealing the employee’s identity.

Anonymous Chat can help managers and HR Admins:

  • Clarify what an employee meant in a comment
  • Ask follow-up questions
  • Discuss an issue without revealing the employee’s identity

How does Anonymous Chat protect the employee’s identity?

The employee who submitted the original comment remains anonymous throughout the chat. The HR Admin or manager is identified when the chat starts and during the conversation.

What can an HR Admin do in Anonymous Chat?

An HR Admin can see an overview of all Anonymous Chats created in the organization.

The HR Admin can only open, read, and reply to chats that are addressed directly to the HR Admin. Seeing a chat in the overview does not give the HR Admin access to the conversation.

The HR Admin can also start an Anonymous Chat from any comment they can access in the Employee Surveys result views.

Who can configure Anonymous Chat in Employee Surveys?

An Employee Surveys administrator can enable and configure Anonymous Chat. Managers and users cannot change the Anonymous Chat settings.

What do I need before enabling Anonymous Chat?

You must assign the HR Admin role to at least one person when Anonymous Chat uses the HR Admin as a recipient. A person must already be an Employee Surveys administrator before you can assign the HR Admin role.

How do I enable Anonymous Chat?

  1. Go to Employee Surveys > Account > then select the Company settings tab.
  2. Scroll down to the Anonymous Chat section.
  3. Turn on Enable the anonymous chat feature in the organization using the toggle to the right.
  4. Assign the HR Admin role to the appropriate Employee Surveys administrator.
  5. Under Start an anonymous chat while answering, choose whether anonymous chats are addressed to the HR Admin, the group owner, or both.
  6. Under Start anonymous chat from comment results, use the toggle to choose whether a group owner can start an anonymous chat from a comment in the results.
  7. Select Save for the Anonymous Chat settings.

How can an Anonymous Chat be started?

  • While answering: A respondent can start an anonymous chat from a comment when Start an anonymous chat while answering is enabled.
  • From comment results: A group owner or HR Admin can start a chat from a comment they can access in the result views. A group owner can do this when Start anonymous chat from comment results is enabled.
