What is SIA?
Sia is your virtual HR assistant, built to answer questions, guide you through HR tasks, and help you find information quickly, without digging through manuals or waiting on a colleague. Just ask, in plain language, and Sia responds directly.
What SIA can help with
Finding answers to HR and policy questions
Sia searches your organization's own handbooks and policy content to answer HR-related questions directly.
“What is our parental leave policy?”
“What does the travel expense policy say about per diem allowances?”
“How do I report sick leave?”
Completing everyday HR tasks
Sia can also carry out common actions on your behalf, not just answer questions about them.
“I want to apply for vacation from 27–29 October.”
“I want to set my status as working remotely.”
“Show me my absence overview.”
Going further with complex, multi-step questions
Sia is built on large language model technology with tool calling, so it can often handle layered requests, cross-reference information, and analyze patterns that weren't explicitly programmed in, rather than only responding to simple lookups.
“How long was I in my previous role as 'Senior Developer' compared to my current role, and what was the salary difference between the end of the previous role and the start of the new one?”
“Give me a 360-degree overview of my current situation: who is my manager, what is my department, what are my main goals from the last review, and how many vacation days do I have left?”
“What is our current headcount, and what is the breakdown of full-time vs. part-time employees?”
Tip: Sia is often more capable than you'd expect. If you're not sure whether it can handle a request, try asking anyway, you may be pleasantly surprised.
How to get best results
- Be clear and specific. Instead of asking “vacation,” try “How many vacation days do I have left this year?” The more precise your question, the more precise Sia's answer.
- Know when to ask Sia. It works best for HR-related topics. For technical questions or anything outside HR, it may not have a reliable answer, think of it as a specialized HR assistant rather than a general knowledge tool.
Where is SIA available
In Simployer One
Look for the chat icon in the top right corner of your screen. Select it to open the conversation window and start typing.
In Microsoft Teams
- Open Microsoft Teams and select Apps. Search for Sia by Simployer and select it.
- Select Add to install the app. A pop-up will confirm the installation.
- Select Open, then Login. This connects your Simployer One account. You'll be redirected to your browser to log in, then returned to Teams once the connection is complete.
Good to know: If you're asked to log in again later, it usually just means your Simployer One session expired, logging in again re-authenticates the connection.
In Slack
An Owner or Admin must activate Sia for Slack before it becomes available to anyone else in the organization. Once that's done:
- In Slack, go to Tools > Apps. Search for Sia by Simployer. If you can't find it, the integration likely hasn't been activated yet, check with your Owner or Admin.
- Select Open app, then send a simple prompt like “help”. This starts the conversation.
- When prompted to log in, select Connect now. You'll be redirected to your browser to log in to Simployer One and link the accounts, then returned to Slack ready to go.
Once connected in Slack, Sia can also proactively notify you when something needs attention, rather than only responding when asked:
- Managers are notified when an employee submits a leave request, and can approve or deny it directly from the message.
- Employees are notified when their manager takes action, such as approving a vacation request.
Good to know: Capabilities are the same across Simployer One, Slack, and Teams, so the same prompts, including the multi-step ones above, work no matter where you're asking.
What SIA can and can't do
What Sia can access
- Publicly available organizational data, such as handbooks, policy documents, and employee or organizational information.
- Your own personal HR data, used only to support the tasks Sia performs for you.
- Information stored within your Simployer One system.
What Sia cannot do
- Sia is not a human HR advisor and only answers based on information it has access to.
- It may not understand very complex or unusual questions, if so, try rephrasing or ask HR directly.
- It cannot access external data sources outside your Simployer One system.
- It does not share your questions or personal information with external AI models, everything stays within the system.
Escalating to human support
Sia provides information and guidance, but doesn't replace human judgment. For a sensitive situation, or anything needing personalized HR advice, reach out to your onboarding specialist directly rather than relying on Sia alone. Sia is also designed to recognize this itself, and will let you know when a question needs human attention instead of trying to answer it directly.
Giving feedback on an answer
Every response from Sia includes a thumbs up and thumbs down option. This is a simple, direct way to flag whether a specific answer was helpful or not, rather than a place to add detailed comments. Using it consistently helps improve Sia's answers over time.
