Select the Training Program template for any type of blended learning, e.g., Course + Test, or Course + Evaluation, or so-called Blended Learning where classroom training is combined with e-learning.
However, the template can just as well be used for e-learning only or classroom-based training only.
The Training Program is the most flexible template. If you are unsure whether you will add more sub-activities to an online course, it is safest to select the Training Program template from the start.
Program settings
Below is a description of the standard fields available in the Training Program activity template. Depending on how your portal is configured, the number of fields may vary.
In general, if you leave an information field empty, it will not be displayed or used.
Description
Fill in the description of the activity, i.e., a short and concise text about the activity. The text in the Description field is shown when the participant hovers the mouse over the course in the catalog (mouse-over). The text also appears at the top of the course description when the participant opens the course.
Objectives
A descriptive text about the objectives of the activity.
Prerequisites
A descriptive text about the knowledge or skills a participant should have in order to take part in the activity. Here you specify any prerequisites that the learner should have before starting the course. Note that the prerequisites you specify here will not be enforced. To prevent a user from starting an activity before requirements are met, you must use the Prerequisite field.
Prerequisites (for Registration and Start)
Here you select which other activities must be completed before this activity can begin.
Prerequisites prevent a participant from registering for an activity if the requirements are not met. If the participant is already registered but does not meet the requirements, they cannot start the course (applies to content-based learning).
To set prerequisites:
- Click the Select button.
- Search for the activity/activities that should be prerequisites.
- Click the Search button.
- The activities matching the search will be listed below the search fields.
- Check the box to the left of the activity/activities that should be prerequisites.
- Click the Add button.
- The added activities will be listed in the upper part of the window.
- Repeat the above steps until all prerequisite courses are selected.
- Click the OK button.
- The courses will now be listed under the heading Prerequisites in the course’s edit mode.
