How do I manage Manager permissions in Simployer One?

Modified on Sun, 30 Aug at 12:47 PM

Configure which actions Managers can perform for the employees they manage.

Overview

Manager permissions in Simployer One control the additional actions Managers can perform for employees they manage.

You can configure:

  • Default permissions that apply to Managers generally
  • Individual permissions for a specific Manager

Go to Settings > Permissions, then expand Manager to manage these settings. The Arcade walkthrough confirms that both company-default and individual Manager permissions are available from this section.

How do I change the default permissions for all Managers?

Use the default Manager permissions when you want the same access rules to apply broadly to Managers in your organization.

  1. Go to Settings > Permissions.
  2. Expand Manager.
  3. Select Edit default permissions.
  4. Configure the permissions your Managers should have.
  5. Save your changes.

Important: Changes to default Manager permissions take effect across the workspace.

Which Manager permissions can I configure?

The available Manager permissions are:

PermissionAvailable access
Candidate CreationOff or Edit
Move to New HireOff or Edit
Onboarding AccessOff or Edit
E-signing / Signing ProcessOff or Edit
Subordinate Tree AccessOff or View
Manage CompensationOff, View, or Edit
Create and edit competenciesOff or Edit
View competencies for all employeesOff or View

What does Candidate Creation allow a Manager to do?

Candidate Creation allows a Manager to create candidates.

What does Move to New Hire allow a Manager to do?

Move to New Hire allows a Manager to move a candidate to New Hire status.

What does Onboarding Access allow a Manager to do?

Onboarding Access allows a Manager to onboard new hires.

What does E-signing / Signing Process allow a Manager to do?

E-signing / Signing Process allows a Manager to start signing processes.

The first four permissions are commonly enabled together when Managers should handle the complete flow from candidate creation through signing and onboarding. However, each permission can also be enabled separately. The Arcade walkthrough specifically describes these permissions as independent even though they are often used together.

What does Subordinate Tree Access allow a Manager to do?

Subordinate Tree Access allows the Manager to access employees beyond their direct reports in their subordinate tree.

For example, if one of the Manager's direct reports is also a Manager, subordinate tree access can extend the relevant Manager permissions to that person's direct reports as well.

What does Manage Compensation allow a Manager to do?

Manage Compensation controls whether the Manager can view or edit compensation information for employees covered by their Manager access.

Available levels are:

  • Off
  • View
  • Edit

What do the Manager competence permissions allow?

There are two Manager permissions related to competencies:

  • Create and edit competencies: Allows the Manager to create and edit skills and certificates in the competence library
  • View competencies for all employees: Allows the Manager to view skill levels and certificate expiration information for employees across the organization

Managers can still edit competence information for their direct reports where their Manager access allows it.

How do I give one Manager different permissions?

Use individual Manager permissions when one Manager needs different access from the company default.

  1. Go to Settings > Permissions.
  2. Expand Manager.
  3. Find the Manager you want to configure.
  4. Select Edit Permissions next to the Manager.
  5. For each permission, select Default or an available explicit permission level such as Off, View, or Edit.
  6. Save your changes.

Selecting Default means the Manager inherits the company setting for that permission.

Note: Some Managers may show View Permissions instead of Edit Permissions.

How do I return a Manager to the company-default permissions?

To remove individual Manager overrides:

  1. Go to Settings > Permissions.
  2. Expand Manager.
  3. Open the individual Manager's permissions.
  4. Select Reset to company default.

The Manager will then inherit the company defaults, including future changes to those defaults.

Important: An individual Manager override continues to take precedence over the company default until you reset it or change the individual setting back to Default.
