How does the salary review approval process work?
Simployer One supports two salary review setups, depending on whether you add additional approvers.
Salary review without approvers
Without additional approvers, the salary review follows this flow:
- The owner starts the salary review and allocates budget to the planners.
- The planners create salary proposals for their employees.
- The final approver approves or rejects the proposals. Rejected proposals go back to the planners for adjustments and resubmission.
- Once the final approver approves the salary review, the owner or the final approver updates the salaries in Simployer One.
Salary review with approvers
With additional approvers, the salary review follows this flow:
- The owner starts the salary review and allocates budget to the approvers.
- The approvers allocate budget to their planners.
- The planners create salary proposals for their employees.
- The approver approves or rejects the proposals from planners. Rejected proposals go back to the planners for adjustments.
- Once the approver is satisfied, they submit the proposals to the final approver.
- The final approver approves or rejects the proposals. If rejected, the review goes back to the approver, who can return it to the planners for further changes.
- Once the final approver approves the salary review, the owner or the final approver updates the salaries in Simployer One.
Note: Adding approvers besides the final approver is optional.
How do I find and open a salary review?
- In the left-hand menu, go to Compensation > Salary reviews.
- Use the Filter button to show only the reviews you want to see, for example Draft, Not Started, or Active.
- Click the name of the salary review, for example Salary review 2026, to open it.
Tip: Salary reviews contain many columns of information. Collapse the left-hand menu to see more of the screen without scrolling.
How do I track the progress of a salary review?
Once you open a salary review, you can see:
- The start date, final approval date, and effective date
- An overview of people, planners, approvers, currency, and days left
- The percentage of the total budget that has been allocated
- The percentage of the salary review that has been completed
- A status for each group, for example Not Started, In progress, Submitted, or Approved
- Any comments left by approvers or planners
How do I replace an approver or planner?
If an approver or planner is unavailable, you can replace them without restarting the salary review.
- Open the salary review.
- Find the row for the group with the approver or planner you want to replace.
- Click Replace approver or Replace planner in the Action column.
Note: You can also replace the final approver from the top of the salary review by clicking Replace final approver.
How do I update salaries after a salary review is approved?
Once the final approver has approved the salary review, the salary review reaches 100% complete. You can then update the salaries in Simployer One.
- Open the salary review.
- Click Update salaries in the top-right corner.
- In the Update salaries window, click Save to confirm.
Important: Once you update the salaries, employees receive a notification and can view their new salary in their profile in Simployer One. Make sure all employees have been informed of their new salary before you complete this step.
Note: This step can also be completed by the final approver.
How do I export a completed salary review?
- Open a completed salary review.
- Click Export in the top-right corner.
- Choose to export the review as a CSV or Excel report.
