Who can manage topics in Handbooks?
Important
Only Admins and Owners can manage topics in Handbooks. Readers do not have access to the Topics tab and cannot see it.
Topics let you organize Handbooks content into browsable categories for your employees.
Where do I find the Topics tab in Handbooks?
- Go to Handbooks in the left-hand menu.
- Select Content Management.
- Click the Topics tab at the top of the page.
The Topics tab shows all topics available in your tenant, along with the number of articles in each topic.
How do I create a new topic in Handbooks?
- Go to Handbooks → Content Management → Topics.
- Select Create new Topic.
- Enter a name for the topic.
- Confirm to save.
The new topic appears in the Topics table immediately.
How do I rename a topic in Handbooks?
- Find the topic in the Topics table.
- Select the edit action on the topic row.

Note
Only custom topics can be deleted. Default topics provided by Simployer cannot be deleted.
How do I change the order of topics in Handbooks?
- Go to Handbooks → Content Management → Topics.
- Select Change order.
- Drag and drop the topic rows into the order you want.
The new order saves automatically. This is also the order employees see when browsing the handbook, so reordering topics changes what employees see first.
Tip
Move your most relevant topics to the top so employees find them faster.
How do I change the order of articles within a topic in Handbooks?
- Go to Handbooks → Content Management → Topics.
- Click on a topic row to open the Articles in Topic view.

The new order saves automatically. Use the back button to return to the Topics table.
Best practices for organizing topics in Handbooks
- Structure topics the way your employees think about handbook content — for example, by role, area, or subject — rather than how the content is organized internally.
- Reorder topics regularly so the most relevant ones for your employees stay near the top.
Can I move an article from one topic to another in Handbooks?
Moving an article to a different topic is managed at the article level in Content Management, not from the Topics tab. The Topics tab only controls the display order of topics and of articles within a topic — it does not control which topic an article belongs to.
