Migration wizard: Fetch data — Fetch your Classic data

Modified on Fri, 18 Sep at 9:32 AM

What happens

You land on Fetch & pre-flight check. Before anything else happens, select Fetch data to read all of your Classic data once and check it before anything is written.

While it runs, you'll see Fetching your data… — reading from Classic and saving your snapshot. This usually takes about a minute; you can safely leave the page and come back, your snapshot is saved.

Once it completes, you'll see Snapshot saved with a Total record count broken down by entity.

Tip: You can download the snapshot (Excel, CSV, or JSON) for your own records, or import a snapshot from a file instead of fetching live.

Your next step: select Continue to move to Choose what to migrate.

If you run into a problem

  • Fetch is taking longer than expected — after the fetch has been queued for over a minute, you'll see "Data fetch is taking longer than expected." Select Cancel & retry to recover.
  • Fetch failed — you'll see "Fetch failed. Please retry," with a support reference if you need to contact us.
  • Fetch was cancelled — if you cancel an in-progress fetch, no data is saved; you can start a new fetch at any time.
  • Snapshot has expired — a snapshot older than 30 days shows "Snapshot has expired." Continue stays disabled until you fetch fresh data.
  • This data is from an earlier session — if you're resuming, you might see a reused-snapshot notice. This is a warning only, not blocking — you can continue with it, or select Fetch again.
  • No persons fetched — if 0 person records came back from Classic, you'll see a warning that all per-employee data (employments, salaries, vacations, etc.) will also be empty. Check your Classic tenant data before proceeding.
  • "Things to check in your data" — after fetching, a validation report may list data-quality issues found in your Classic data. These are informational — nothing is blocked, and you can continue regardless. If you have many warnings and errors, consider going back to the Classic Data Validation tooling to correct them, then fetch your data again.

What if the validation report doesn't load?

You'll see "We could not check your data for issues just now." This doesn't affect the data itself — you can continue.
