What sources does an Expert answer draw on?
Expert answers draw on two kinds of source:
- Simployer's Expert content: Articles written by Simployer's legal experts. This content explains how a rule works in practice.
- Official legal sources: Norwegian laws and regulations as published by Lovdata. This is the wording of the law itself.
When an Expert answer relies on a specific legal provision, the answer includes that exact provision. You can then read the statutory text behind what Expert tells you.
How do I open the statutory text behind an Expert answer?
When an Expert answer relies on a legal provision, the provision appears in the list of sources shown with the answer.
- Find the sources listed with the Expert answer.
- Look for the legal provision and its section reference, for example § 8-23.
- Select the provision to open its statutory text at Lovdata.
Why does an Expert answer show two kinds of sources?
Expert keeps Simployer's content and the statutory text separate. This shows you which parts of the answer are Simployer's guidance and which parts are the wording of the law:
- Simployer's Expert content explains how the rule works in practice.
- The statutory text from Lovdata is the rule itself.
Are Norwegian legal provisions used for questions about other countries?
No. Expert only offers a Norwegian legal provision for a question about Norway. Statutory text from one country is never presented as the authority for another country's rules.
Why does an Expert answer show no legal provisions?
An Expert answer can come without legal provisions for four reasons:
- The question is about law outside Norway: Expert's official legal sources cover only Norwegian laws and regulations.
- Simployer's content already answers the question fully: No statutory provision is needed to settle it.
- The legal sources couldn't be reached when you asked: Expert answers from Simployer's content instead. You get a normal answer with no provisions, no error message and no delay. Asking again later may return the provisions.
- The relevant provision hasn't been added yet: Expert's coverage of Norwegian law starts with a selection of laws and regulations and is growing.
In all four cases, the Expert answer is still based on Simployer's Expert content. Only the citation to a legal provision is missing.
Tip
If you expected a provision and none appeared, ask the same question again later. The legal sources may have been temporarily unavailable.
Do official legal sources replace Simployer's Expert content?
No. Expert still answers from the content written by Simployer's legal experts. The official legal sources from Lovdata add to that content and help Expert answer questions it doesn't cover on its own.
Missing information
- Which laws and regulations are covered: The draft says Expert starts with "a selection." A list, or a link to one, would let Fin answer "Does Expert cover the Working Environment Act?" accurately.
- Where the sources list appears: For example, below the answer or behind a Sources button. The exact UI label would make the steps more precise.
- Swedish legal sources: If adding Swedish legal sources is planned, consider whether the article should say so. If not, the current wording is accurate as is.
